Pat Brown claims that the McCanns are dismissive of the Smith sighting

With regard to the Irish Smith family sighting, Pat Brown makes the following claims about the McCanns:-

Pat Brown Quote One:

The McCanns insist that this was the abductor of Madeleine and the Smith sighting on the Rua da Escola Primaria had nothing to do with her disappearance. It is this particular fact that further supports a cover-up rather than a real abduction.

She repeats this assertion when she claims that

Pat Brown Quote Two:

Yet, while totally accepting Jane’s questionable sighting, the McCanns have completely tossed off the Smith family sighting of a man carrying a child around 10 PM walking in a different direction (but still easily coming from the McCann apartment) and heading toward the beach?. Why? Why do they not believe this could be the abductor?

Pat Brown Quote Three:

This is from an article in the  Daily Mail 24th April 2017

"In a blog two weeks ago, Miss Brown claimed that the McCanns would not have ignored The Smith Sighting, 'If they are innocent'.

She was referring to an alleged sighting of a man carrying a young girl through the resort in his arms, reported by an Irish family, the Smiths.

Four months after her disappearance, they saw the McCanns appeal on television and claimed that the man they saw was Gerry McCann.

Miss Brown wrote: 'Even if I could explain away every other behavior of the McCanns and every other piece of evidence in this case, the one thing I cannot possibly come up with is an alternative explanation for is the McCanns ignoring of the Smith sighting.

'If they are innocent of any connection to Maddie going missing, they would have jumped on the Smith sighting as a huge lead as to who might have taken their daughter.

'And if they are guilty of involvement in the disappearance of Maddie, their ignoring of the Smith sighting is the strongest piece of evidence we have of Maddie's death and subsequent cover-up being an inside job and not a stranger abduction.'

It is hard to understand why Pat Brown is making these claims in view of the fact that the opposite is true.

Kate McCann believes the Smith sighting is highly significant

From the May 2009 Channel 4 documentary "Madeleine Was Here" (4.36):-

Quote:

Voice over: The most likely sighting of Madeleine and her abductor was by Jane Tanner, a friend of the McCanns. In the files, Kate believes another witness statement from an Irish family, describes a very similar sighting to Jane’s. Less than a mile from the McCann’s apartment.

Kate: The reason why this is significant is.... both sightings were given independently. So, when this family gave their statement they weren’t aware of Jane's description and there’s actually quite a lot of similarities ... and it does beg the question... I mean, how many people carry their children on a cold night, not covered, you know?  Nothing on their arms, or their feet - no blanket. Now, either there’s been two people carrying children that way who haven’t come forward to eliminate themselves, or potentially they’re related.

Voice of Interviewer: But, you think that child is Madeleine?

Kate: I think there's a good chance it could be Madeleine. Certainly the description there sounds to me like Madeleine.

Kate McCann's book "Madeleine" (hardback):-

Kate McCann devotes no fewer than 4 pages in her book to the significance of the Smith sighting – pp 98, 328-329 & 365

She says:-

Quote:

“The police did not appear to feel that Jane’s sighting in Rua Dr Agostinho da Silva and the man and child reported by the Irish holidaymakers in Rua da Escola Primaria were related.  They seem to have concluded that these were in all likelihood two different men carrying two different children (if, they implied, these two men actually existed at all).  The only reason for their skepticism appeared to be an unexplained time lapse between the two sightings.  They didn’t dovetail perfectly.  To me, the similarities seem far more significant than any discrepancy in timing”.

She goes on to remark on the similarities between these two completely independent sightings saying

Quote:

“(…remember – Jane’s description had not been released to the public before the Irish witnesses made their statements),  I am staggered by how alike they are, almost identical in parts.”

It is not true that the McCanns "dismissed" or "ignored" the Smith family sighting of a man carrying a child on the night Madeleine went missing.

Three examples are given in the video of the McCanns highlighting the significance of the sighting.

Pat Brown claims both to have read Kate McCann's book and to have watched their televised statements:-
