Rebuttal of "Fact" 48

The Madeleine McCann Research Group (MMRG) 50 "Facts" leaflet claims:

48. The McCanns have produced 16 different artists’ impressions of suspects, ‘persons of interest’ and ‘persons we wish to eliminate from our enquiries’. Yet despite their spending millions of pounds, we, the public, know nothing whatsoever about who is supposed to have abducted Madeleine.

Verdict - False and True.   Some sketches were produced after people contacted the McCanns and told them what they'd seen. Indeed the public doesn't know who has abducted Madeleine, neither do her parents. The man who was seen carrying a child that evening never came forward to identify himself.

Source - Newspapers, the Find Madeleine website and the Police Files.

Summary of Verifiable Facts

  1. A quick search shows that at least 5 of the e-fits aren't 'produced' by the McCanns but by the police;
  2. At the moment there are three 'Unidentified People of Interest to the Inquiry' mentioned on the Find Madeleine site;
  3. The public nor the McCanns know who has abducted Madeleine. But someone knows and may be someone holds vital information without knowing it.

Victoria Beckham 'lookalike' sought in Madeleine McCann case

This article was published on guardian.co.uk at 13.50 BST on Thursday 6 August 2009.

Quote.

The woman, said to have an Australian or New Zealand accent, was reportedly seen by two British men in Barcelona, Spain, days after Madeleine went missing in Praia da Luz shortly before her fourth birthday.

The woman said something to one of the men that has convinced investigators working for the McCanns that she could provide potentially significant information. An efit of the woman was released today at a London press conference by a family spokesman, Clarence Mitchell, and David Edgar, the retired detective who now leads the search for the girl.

Quote.

Mitchell said there had been many "well-meaning and malicious" tip-offs over the years since Madeleine disappeared and her parents were hoping this one might be significant. "They are searching for Madeleine with every breath they take. They will never give up until they know what happened to her."

--- Adding that the man had dark and thick hair but with no noticeable fringe [at the front].
--- Regarding [the man's] apparel he adds that he didn't observe this in detail, judging that [the man] wore a plain T-shirt, possibly yellow."

Compare MMRG statement with the actual FACTS

MMRG quote: The McCanns have produced 16 different artists’ impressions of suspects, ‘persons of interest’ and ‘persons we wish to eliminate from our enquiries’. Yet despite their spending millions of pounds, we, the public, know nothing whatsoever about who is supposed to have abducted Madeleine.

Actually: As you can see, most of the e-fits are made by the police and at their request. According to the Find Madeleine website, there are three "Unidentified People of Interest to the Inquiry".

It's not important that we, the public, don't know who has abducted Madeleine, what is important is that neither her parents nor the police or the private investigators know who is responsible for her disappearance. Maybe the review by New Scotland Yard will change that.

Quote.

I urge anyone who has any information however small or tenuous to come forward now so that further enquiries can be made.
There is, of course, as least one person who knows what has happened to Madeleine, and where she may be found.
I ponder about that person: whether that person has a heart and can understand what it must be like for Madeleine to have been torn and secreted from her parents and siblings whom she loves and felt secure with, and whom no doubt misses and grieves for. Whether that person has a conscience or any feeling of guilt, remorse or even cares about the hurt which has been caused to an innocent little girl: whether that person has a faith and belief, and what explanation or justification that person will give to God.
I entreat that person whoever and wherever you may be to show mercy and compassion, and come forward now to tell us where Madeleine is to be found.
I hope and pray that Madeleine will be found very soon alive and well.

People want to help, people do come forward wtih information in good faith. If it's a credible witness with significant information, an artists impression is made if a description can be given - it isn't known at this point whether THIS might be the witness whose statement will break the case.

It's very possible that some of this information (given in good faith) is not related to Madeleine's disappearance, but only investigation leading to evidence can prove this.

What is the MMRG suggesting the police and McCanns should have done with these descriptions? Limit the numbers? Discard some of them? How would they choose? How would the MMRG choose?
