Unprecendented levels of Misinformation
The McCann case is unprecedented in the levels of misinformation which have been published about it. Drs Kate & Gerry McCann have successfully taken legal action against several newspapers which published false stories which were deemed harmful to the search for their daughter.
Much of this misinformation continues to circulate the Internet today.
Examples of Current documentation which contains false information considered harmful to the search for Madeleine McCann
Examples are the "50 Facts" leaflet published by the MMRG (led by Tony Bennett) and the ebook entitled "The Profile of the Disappearance of Madeleine McCann" written by Pat Brown. Both of these publications are rebutted on this wiki.
How misinformation can be detrimental to the search for missing persons
As with the search for all missing persons, public awareness is vital. The McCanns and their supporters repeatedly express concern that these false stories may convince some people that Madeleine McCann is dead and that they should not therefore be looking for a live child.
Facts are for everyone - not just those who would know the difference
Of additional concern is the apparent lack of consideration for this factor by those people who attack the McCann family daily. This fear was given substance by a post made on the Missing Madeleine forum on Sunday 27th November, 2011 by Hi-de-ho, a regular contributor to the anti-McCann movement.
